
The Green River Pirates baseball team has had a pretty rough season so far. Sitting at 1-10 and No. 15 in the RPI released by the Utah High School Activities Association, they currently are in the middle of an eight game losing streak. Their last win came against Pinnacle on August 10. And the last time they were on the diamond was a 12-4 loss to Wendover at home.
The games leading up to the Wendover match-up , the Pirates faced Valley a 14-0 loss, Bryce Valley a 5-0 loss and a 16-2 loss to Panguitch, a team that sits at No. 2 in the RPI.
Wendover came up to the plate in the first putting up three runs, two of them off errors by the Pirates.
Green River would come up in the bottom of the second putting up one run off of the bat of Antonio Macias that brought home Camden Anderson, and put the score at 4-1.
The third inning was where Wendover did the most damage scoring six runs and running off pitcher Jordan Anderson after just 1/3 of an inning of work. Anderson came in for Cristian Venzor who started the game on the mound and went two innings. Ryker Meadows replaced Anderson in the third.
With the score 10-1 in the bottom of the third, Meadows would score on a passed ball for Green River. Jo Vollmer would score on a balk by the Wendover pitcher. And then in the fourth inning Meadows would steal third and then score on another passed ball which brought the score to 11-4.
Wendover would add one more run in the sixth and held Green River scoreless for the rest of the contest taking the 12-4 win.
For the Pirates, Meadows had a good day at the plate with two runs and two hits. Jay Mendez, Hoyt Hunt, Camden Anderson and Macias would all collect hits, Macias also had an RBI.
On the mound Venzor got the start going two innings giving up four hits and four runs while striking out three. Jordan Anderson came in next going just 1/3 of an inning giving up six runs (five earned) on one hit and Meadows went 4 2/3 with one hit two runs and struck out nine.
Up next for the Pirates will be a trip to Junction to take on Piute. They will be home again on Friday to face Wayne. First pitch is set for 3 p.m..
