The annual United Way of Eastern Utah Day of Caring is coming up on Saturday, September 11. This event is one of the largest single-day of volunteerism in Carbon County and Director, Megan Cummings stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss more details.

Right now, United Way of Eastern Utah is looking for projects that can been completed and also for volunteers to help with those projects. Cummings explains how to submit projects and to sign up to volunteer, “So I think the simplest way is to just hop on our website https://www.uweu.org/ and there’s a Day of Caring banner right on the home page, you click on that, and then there’s some more information about Day of Caring including a link where people can submit projects form, and that is pretty easy I promise you just click on the link and answer some questions. Then there is also a link to volunteer, so you just click on the link, you enter some of your information, boom you’re signed up to volunteer.” The website is very user-friendly but you can also call Cummings at the United Way office at (435) 637-8911 or stop by at 81 North 200 East.

“Saturday, September 11 is the Day of Caring and I would love to have all these projects submitted within the next couple of days so I have time to call homeowners, property owners, talk to city officials, talk to businesses, and say oh by the way, can my group of volunteers or our group of volunteers show up and pull some weeds or pick up trash,” stated Cummings. It’s important that she us able to iron out all the details before the actual event on September 11.

Volunteers are asked to please wear appropriate clothing and shoes, sunscreen, bring work gloves and tools to assist with some of the scheduled projects. “We definitely want people to bring their work gloves, and rakes, but we’re going to have things like trash bags of course, that’s always provided; water is provided. But yea, if people have tools, I say go ahead and bring your toolbox,” said Cummings. Peterson Chemical will be providing the trash bags and city sanitation will provide a dumpster to accommodate all the trash that is gathered for the day.

The Day of Caring event will run from 7:00 am till 12:00 pm with a free breakfast held at Lin’s Fresh Market parking lot. Then once the projects are completed volunteers will be meet at Washington Park for a free lunch provided again by Lin’s Fresh Market.
