Our mom, daughter, sister, aunt, and friend, Cortney Fercik, tragically passed away on August 26, 2021 in Aztec, NM.  She spent her life caring for others as a nurse at San Juan Regional in the nephrology department.  She earned her nursing degree while working and being a single mom, but she had help even if she was too stubborn to ask for it.

She loved fiercely and when she committed to loving you, she was all in.  She swore like a sailor, she worked hard and she lived for her girls.  She held nothing back.  She gave more than she had, especially when it came to her friends, family, and patients.  As a child, she was shy.  You could say she was the tag-along, pain in the neck little sister. When she finally figured out who she was as an adult, she was easy to get along with and she made friends easily.  If you were part of her life, she loved you with her whole heart.  She was a devoted mother who kept her girls close to her heart and worked hard to make sure they were taken care of.

Her laugh was infectious.  When she laughed hard, she would snort and laugh even harder.  At that point, she would have everyone around her joining in.  She was a die-hard Backstreet Boys fan.  She was fortunate enough to attend one of their concerts with Roxi and Sharon, cousin and aunt, when she was a kid.  She talked often about wanting to go to Las Vegas to see them again but she was never able to make that happen. She loved cats. She was going to be the “Crazy Cat Lady”.  They came and went and it was rare that she didn’t have a cat in her house.

She is survived by her daughters, Emily and Kylie Fercik; fiancé, Nathan Dickens and the Dickens and French family; parents, Michael and Debra Fercik; siblings, Michelle (Matt) Huff, John Fercik, Nick (Jeanette) Fercik, “sister” Niki Crespin; nieces, Dezi, Char, Addy; nephews, Brandon, Chris, Zach, Ryshon, Kieran; aunts, uncles, cousins; grandfather, Robert Nuttall and her work family in nephrology.

She is preceded in death by her grandparents, John and Beverly Fercik and Virginia Nuttall, Jeanie Dickens (Nathan’s mother), and Alethia Rothlisberger (close friend).
