The Carbon Dinos fought tricky weather conditions to wrap up the Region 12 championship on the golf course Thursday afternoon at the Cedar Ridge Course in Cedar City.

Joey Penovich posted the team’s low score with an 83 as the Dinos tallied a final score of 341, three strokes better than second place North Sanpete. Canyon View finished third on their home course with a 351, followed by Richfield and Juab.

Ryker Smith helped push the Dinos to their sixth straight victory with an 84. Kayden Alderson ended with an 85 and Wyatt Henrie shot an 89. Ryan Gagon and Carson Martinez finished with an 91 and 92 to round the varsity individual scores.

After dominating throughout the regular season the three-stroke win at the region finale gives Carbon a clean sweep of all region play. Smith, Alderson and Penovich also finished in the top five individually.

Still one week away from state tournament play the Dinos will prepare for the season finale with the Eastern Utah Cup, a competition that includes two other schools and a traveling trophy. The Eastern Utah Cup will act as a exhibition meet to prepare the team for the Soldier Hollow Course, the home of this year’s state championship meet on Oct. 5 and 6.
