Bode Salas claimed his second individual Region 12 championship in as many seasons, while the Carbon Dinos finished second overall at the division finale Monday afternoon at the Palisade Golf Course.
Entering the meet with a 38-stroke deficit, the Dinos fell just four-strokes short of the Wildcats with a team total of 331. Grand ended in third with a 347, followed by Canyon View’s 352 and Emery’s 356.
Salas, the reigning 3A State Champion, capped off a brilliant individual season with a final score of 71. Locked in a battle with multiple Richfield golfers and Grand’s Wyatt Toney, Salas shot the low round to secure the individual crown.
Daron Garner was second for Carbon as he finished with an 85. Cameron Jones’ 87 and Kyler Clark’s 91 completed the four scores. The Dinos had multiple golfers just miss the top four for team scores as Branden Scovill ended with an 88 and Rydge Butler shot a 92.
The second place finish overall is enough for the Dinos to clinch a berth in the 3A State Championship Tournament, which is scheduled to take place on October 6 and 7 at Oquirrh Hills in Tooele.
