The final RPI of the season for girls 3A High School Soccer was released Wednesday morning, setting the stage for the State Championship Tournament, which begins on Saturday.
The Carbon Lady Dinos will enter the State Tournament as the No. 6 seed after finishing the regular season 11-4 overall. The placement gives Carbon a first round bye, meaning they will play host to either No. 11 Juab or No. 22 American Leadership Academy in the second round on Wednesday, Oct. 13.
The Emery Lady Spartans will enter the tournament as the No. 21 seed, placing them in a tough first round matchup with No. 12 Delta on the road Saturday at 1:00 p.m.. The winner will advance to play No. 5 Manti on Wednesday, Oct. 13 at 4:00 p.m.. Emery ended the season with a 3-14 mark overall.
The top 10 teams in the final RPI all receive first round byes. The next 12 teams will all compete this Saturday at the higher seeds home-site. The first three rounds of the tournament will be held at the high seed’s home. The final four teams will then meet at Jordan High School for the semifinals on Oct. 21, with the State Championship taking place Oct. 23 at Rio Tinto Stadium.
The Morgan Trojans ended as the top ranked squad in the 3A classification with a record of 14-3. The Canyon View Falcons, who finished unbeaten in Region 12, come in at No. 2. Ogden, RSL Academy and Manti round out the top five.
The RPI standings were updated following each matchup throughout the season. They are determined by three statistically categories:
*MWP (Modified Winning Percentage): Divide the number of possible points by the number of total available points from games played accounting for the adjustment between classifications.
*OWP (Opponents Winning Percentage): Average of the winning percentage of a team’s opponent.
*OOWP (Opponents’ Opponents Winning Percentage): Same process as OWP except the calculation is with the opponents of the team’s opponent.
