
Carbon’s cross country teams were on the road on Tuesday in Roosevelt for the Union Invitational. The meet which took place on the golf course was attended by over ten schools. The men’s team ended the day in the second spot with the ladies finishing in third as the season slowly starts to wind down.
Kobe Cruz was once again the top finisher for Carbon on the boys side finishing just behind Jett Davenport and Paul Squire of host Union. Cruz crossed the finish turning in a time of 15:56.6 which was just off Davenport’s 15:39.5. Patrick Reilly of Juan Diego and Tyler Taggart of Manti rounded out the top five.
This marks Cruz’s eighth top five finish this season.
Braxton Ware, Garrett Black, Pierce Bryner and Easton Humes all placed in the top 15 runners in a competition that had over 70 entrants.
In the team standings Union grabbed the top spot, followed by Carbon, Manti, Juan Diego and Uintah.
For the ladies it was Ambree Jones taking fourth overall with a time of 19:40. 1. Ethan Stephans of Juan Diego claimed the top spot followed by Sadie Nielsen of Manti. Mari Briggs of North Sanpete, Jones and Madelyn Christensen of North Sanpete made up the rest of the top five.
Ellie Hansen, Mariah George, Lindsie Fausett, Lilly Seely and Kaylie Metzger also competed for Carbon in a field of more than 90 runners.
North Sanpete earned the win on the team side with Manti, Carbon, Juan Diego and Uintah taking the top places.
The next meet on the schedule is the Region 12 Championship which will be held this year at Canyon View in Cedar City on Oct. 20.
