The Assumption Greek Orthodox Church Philoptochos Society will be hosting their Annual Thanksgiving Dinner on Saturday, November 13. This pre-ordered dinner will be for pick-up only from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm. Church Member, Stephanie Cha took time to visit with Castle Country Radio about the event.
“First off, I would just like to explain a little bit about Philoptochos, that word actually means Friend of the Poor and we really like to reach out to our community and help. So we decided to stick with the Thanksgiving Dinner for a long time just as a church parish but then we realized we wanted to begin to reach out to the community,” stated Cha. In years past the church received feed back from guests that enjoyed the idea of picking up their meals and taking them home to eat with family. That is why this year with COVID restrictions it was only fitting that this year’s meal be served in the same traditional manner as year’s past.
The cost for the meal is $15.00 and all proceeds will stay local to help children with new shoes. There are a few different ways that you can order your meal as Cha explains, “So in the paper that comes out every Thursday there will be an advertisement for it, you can fill it out on there, and then send it, there’s the P.O. Box information on that. You can also look on Facebook and on our Assumption Greek Orthodox web page, it will be on there, you can print it, the form from there.” Deadline for ordering a meal is on Monday, November 8.
This year’s meal will be traditional in that turkey, potatoes, stuffing, green beans, roll and dessert will be served. You can also place your order by calling (435) 820-6631 or (435) 820-2189.
