
The Carbon Lady Dinos began play in the Shannon Johnson Classic in Vernal Thursday night against host school Uintah. Carbon held a 29-16 lead heading in to the final quarter, the Uintah Utes found their offense and defense holding Carbon to just five points in the fourth allowing the Utes to take the 38-34 win.
The Dinos came in to the game after a loss to Grantsville last Tuesday 59-50. The contest with Uintah was only the third game of the season for Carbon. The opening game of the season a 61-27 win over American Leadership Academy.
At the end of the first half it seemed like the Dinos were on their way to an easy win going into the locker room with a 17-8 lead. The third quarter brought more of the same as the Dinos outscored the Utes 12-8.
It was the fourth quarter where the wheels fell off for Carbon. Uintah put the clamps down defensively and opened up the offense. The Utes went on a 22-5 run in the final quarter to overcome the 13 point deficit and claimed the four point win.
Madi Orth led the Dinos with 12, she also grabbed nine boards and collected three steals. Sydney Orth dropped 10 pulling down three rebounds and four steals, and Amiah Timothy had six points and three rebounds.
Friday at 2:30 the Dinos will take on the Ridgeline Riverhawks. The Riverhawks defeated the Emery Spartans last night 49-27. Ridgeline is a 4A school from Millville. Saturday, they will face San Juan and Sky View before returning to Price.
The Dinos will have their next home game on Jan. 4, when they welcome Union to Price.
