
The Emery Spartans are in Vernal to take part in the Shannon Johnson Classic this weekend. In game one they faced the Ridgeline Riverhawks from Millville. The Spartans struggled on offense scoring double digits in only one quarter. Ridgeline took the victory 49-27.
Emery had been on a three game winning streak before the game with the Riverhawks. Ridgeline plays in the 4A classification and last season lost to eventual state champ Sky View in the quarterfinals
Emery had trouble with their offense early only scoring four points in the first quarter. They came out in the second scoring 11, but Ridgeline took a 29-15 lead into the locker room at the half.
The Lady Spartans scoring woes continued in the second half only finding eight points in the third and four in the final quarter, falling 49-27.
Baylee Jacobson led Emery with nine points in a game where the Spartans shot just 22% from the field, Jacobson also pulled down four boards. Tambrie Tuttle and Daicee Ungerman each scored five with Tuttle pulling down seven rebounds.
The Spartans will take to the court again on Friday when they face Fruita Monument, a team from Colorado. On Thursday night Fruita defeated San Juan 67-20.
Emery will then play San Juan and defending 4A champion Sky View on Saturday before returning home.
Next weekend they will have two games in Southern Utah against Pine View and Hurricane.
The Lady Spartans will be home on Dec. 14 when they will face Delta. Game time is set for 7.
