The Carbon Dino boys team traveled to Richfield over the weekend to play in the 3A preview tournament at the Sevier Valley Center. Sitting at a 2-2 record before play began, Carbon played two games in as many days facing the North Sevier Wolves and the Morgan Trojans. In game one against the Wolves it was all about the Dinos as Carbon claimed the 69-36 win. Game two with the Trojans though close resulted in a 55-45 Dino loss.

Below is a recap of both games:

Game 1 North Sevier- Win 69-36

In their opening game of the weekend Carbon faced off with North Sevier. This game was really won by the Dinos in the even periods as quarters one and three were played very close.

In the second, Carbon held the Wolves to just eight points, all the while putting 20 points up on the scoreboard, then again in quarter four the Dinos outscored the Wolves 24-4.

Chet Anderson who has played big minutes in the last few games, scored 21 points in this one pulling down four rebounds in the process. Coach Jared Butler talked about Anderson in a recent interview on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports.

“He has stepped up and really helped us out at the varsity level. He’s just tenacious on the defensive end and then he works so hard to run the floor. In the North Sevier game he was just beating everybody up and Jordan (Fossat) or somebody else was finding him over the top, and then he just finishes that lay-up full speed tilt.”

Jackson Griffeth added 18 and pulled down 12 rebounds while Fossat dropped in 10 while dishing out six assists and collecting three steals.

Game 2 Morgan- Loss 55-45

In the second game of the weekend, the Dinos took on the Trojans from Morgan. Carbon went back and forth with Morgan trailing 49-26 going into the fourth, the Dinos held the Trojans to just six points but they couldn’t overcome Morgan’s lead and lost the contest by 10.

In the next man up mentality of the Dinos this season, Braxton Stevenson led all scorers in the game with 17 points on 6-of-9 shooting, he also pulled down five rebounds and snagged two steals. Fossat scored 12 while adding two assists and two steals. Jackson Griffeth  grabbed seven rebounds and Cole Cripps added five in the loss.

Up next for the Dinos is a road trip to Mount Pleasant to face the North Sanpete Hawks. The Hawks sit at a perfect 5-0 this season.
