The Lady Spartans were in Vernal over the weekend to take part in The Shannon Johnson Classic, a four day tournament consisting of teams from all classifications. After losing the first game on Thursday to Ridgeline, Emery would still have three games remaining in two days against Fruita Monument from Colorado, San Juan and Sky View. Collecting wins against San Juan and Sky View the Spartans now hold a 5-2 record this season.
Below is a recap of the weekend games:
Game 1- Fruita Monument- Loss 51-48
In the game with the Fruita Monument Wildcats, Emery played very close in the first half, keeping the Fruita lead at seven going into the locker room.
In the third quarter the Spartans made their move, out scoring the Wildcats 20-16 and by the fourth quarter they had cut the lead to just three. Unfortunately for Emery all either teams could do was score four points each in the final quarter giving Fruita the victory.

Game 2- San Juan- Win 69-22
A night’s rest must have done wonders for the Lady Spartans as they came out first thing Saturday showing no mercy for the San Juan Broncos.
Jumping out in quarter one to a 20-5 lead the Spartans put another 16 on the board in the second pushing their halftime lead to 36-10.
In the second half, the third quarter was more of the same as Emery added 25 more points to their lead while allowing the Broncos to score just four.
A total of ten Spartans scored in the contest led by Aliya Lester’s 12 and four rebounds. Brynn Gordon added 10. Jacobson dropped in 9 to go with her four assists and Brielle Rowley put six on the board in this one-sided affair for the Spartans.
