The Lady Dinos made the trip over the mountain to Vernal Thursday through Saturday to play four at the Shannon Johnson Classic. Taking a loss in their first contest against host team Uintah 38-34, the Dinos set out to play three more games in two days. Logging wins against San Juan and Sky View, they suffered another loss to Ridgeline.
Below is a recap of games played Friday and Saturday:
Ridgeline- Loss 32-18
Carbon struggled mightily in the game on Friday, unable to find offense throughout.
Scoring just two points in quarter number one but more importantly giving up 17 to Ridgeline, when halftime rolled around Carbon found themselves down 26-7. The Dinos did outscore Ridgeline 11-6 in the second half but it just wasn’t enough.
As a team the Dinos shot 24% from the field, Janzie Jensen scored seven and gathered a couple steals. Madi Orth added four with three rebounds and Molly Banks scored three in the loss.
San Juan- Win 76-11
The next morning the Dinos took out their frustrations over the Ridgeline loss on the San Juan Broncos. Carbon locked them down allowing just four points in the first half, while pouring it on offensively scoring 44.
In the second half it was more of the same as Carbon gave up seven points to San Juan and added another 35.
Molly Banks dropped in 15, while Lyndee Mower put in eight. Amiah Timothy scored seven, rebounded four and registered three steals.
Haylee Prescott and Jenna Richards owned the paint, with Richards grabbing eight and Prescott pulling down 13 rebounds.
Sky View- Win 53-52
This was probably the most competitive game of the weekend for Carbon.
Both teams kept each other close for the entire contest. Going to the third quarter 46-42, Carbon used their defense to hold Sky View to just six points in the final quarter to get the one point win.
Sydney Orth scored 14 points to go with her four rebounds. Timothy added 15 and Madi Orth scored seven and pulled down four.
Up next, the Dinos will make what seems like their annual trip to the Fruita Monument Tournament in Colorado.
They will take on three teams from Colorado over the weekend. Palisades, Grand Junction and the host team Fruita. It all starts on Thursday.
