The Emery Caring for Kids is currently preparing for their upcoming school district Christmas Holiday. They are in need of donations to make sure that children in the area don’t go without meals during the long holiday weekend.
“So Emery and Carbon Caring for Kids use a lot of the same items. So Emery Caring for Kids we use mac n’ cheese cups, Top Ramen, microwavable Chef Boyardee cups, fruit cups, apple sauce pouches, oatmeal, breakfast bars, individual wrapped snacks, anything that kind of goes with that. This year we actually have started using canned soup as long as it has a pop-top lid so that the kids have easy access to that, so they don’t have to have a can opener or anything to open those,” stated Coordinator, Lindsey Oman. Incorporating the pop-top soups has been huge hit with the children and they’ve really enjoyed the newest addition to their kits.
The items for the Christmas kits are similar to the weekly kits other than there are more items to include for the long holiday break. “So a lot of the items are the same but we are asking for a full box of cereal for each child. Then we are asking for a full can of peanut butter, a full can of jelly. So things that we don’t normally use every week, we do use those for the Christmas kits,” stated Oman.
The food that is needed to complete a full Christmas Kit is as follows:
1 box of cereal
7 dinner items / mac n cheese, Top Ramen or Chef Boyardee
4 tuna/chicken & cracker boxes
8 fruit cups or apple sauce
4 oatmeal
8 breakfast bars
12 individual snacks
1 peanut butter
1 jelly
Organizers are asking that any items you wish to donate towards Christmas Kits are to be dropped off at either Emery Aquatic Center or Magnuson Lumber no later than December 15. If you would rather make a monetary donation towards the cause, it’s quite easy as Oman explains, “So we have a Venmo account. Emery Caring 4 Kids and we also have an account at Eastern Utah Community Credit Union that I believe you can just go into the actual branch in Price or Castle Dale and if you give them our account’s name, they can just deposit that.”
