Although we’re right in the middle of the holiday season the Utah Division of Wildlife Resources is making disposal of real Christmas trees super easy again this year by offering a recycle station from December 26 through January 15.

“This is a really cool thing that we offer for citizens around Carbon and Emery County, we’ll take any of your Christmas trees that were live and were harvested from the area out to our Desert Lake Wildlife Management area. We basically scatter these across the Wildlife Management area in order to generate habitat or upland game species, your birds, your small mammals, etc.,” stated Conservation Outreach Manager, Aaron Bott. This is a great way for citizens to recycle their live trees to help the environment.

The Desert Lake Wildlife Management area is an open area with very little trees around for various species to have shelter. “By putting these trees out, it simulates basically a natural environment where trees would be falling over, where they would be rotting and decomposing, and again this is just a great place for animals to make a home, and like you said, stay safe from predators, as well as just keep out of the elements,” stated Bott. The trees have been delivered and set up in areas such as Desert Lake and Gordon Creek in years past.

There will be a trailer set up in the north portion of the DWR parking lot on Carbonville Road. “You can actually take your tree over beginning December 26, so if you’re hankering to get that tree out of the house after Christmas you can take it over to the Division of Wildlife Resources office in Price. We have an area that typically has a sign and is roped off in the parking lot where you can deposit these trees. We’ll be accepting trees from December 26 to January 15 for those of us that don’t want to give up Christmas too quickly,” said Bott. The DWR office building can be found at 319 North Carbonville Road and if you have any questions about recycling your tree you can call the office at (435) 613-3707.
