The USU Eastern men’s basketball team was on the court on Saturday afternoon to take on the Colorado Northwestern Community College Spartans. Coming off a win the Saturday before against the College of Southern Nevada, the Eagles were looking forward to keeping that momentum going against the Spartans. The game was very close all the way with just three points separating the two teams at the end with the Spartans taking the 79-76 win.

Colorado Northwestern has been a program that has turned things around of late. The Eagles still hold a 24-8 all-time record over the Spartans going -3 in their last 10 meetings.

This game was a battle that went back and forth for both halves. The Spartans went into the locker room at the half up by just two 38-36.

The second half was played even tighter with one point separating the two teams, but at the end three points was the difference.

Kurt Wegscheider led the Eagles once again with 19 points and grabbing seven boards. Wegscheider has been a consistent presence for USU Eastern early on this season.

Isaac Castagnetto added 15 with six rebounds and two steals. Payton Falslev added nine and Gbenga Olubi scored nine off the bench to go with four rebounds and one blocked shot.

The Eagles, now 9-5 and 2-3 in conference play, will be off until January 6 when they will travel to Rangely, Colorado to face the Spartans on their home floor.
