The Green Team of Carbon County is a local organization that is concerned about the environment and the use of resources in our community. They have several recycling trailers available throughout the county for residents to do their part in recycling paper and aluminum items.

“We began in 2009, you know I just recently retired and I was looking at something that might help improve the community. So I reached out to city councilman and they connected me to another councilman and they were thinking along these lines and a group of us got together and formed the Green Team,” said Representative Jim Piachatelli. Over the 13 years there has been some changes in the composition of the team but its persisted and the group is grateful.

There are Green Team trailers located all around the county for residents to have easy access. The main focus for the organization has been paper, cardboard and aluminum cans. “Now we have 10 trailers for paper and those are located at Sutherlands, ETV News, the museum, the doctor’s office that’s the one right behind the hospital, the bowling alley just down here on Carbonville Road, in Helper next to the Police Station,” explained Piachatelli. There are Green Team Trailers located at a few of the schools in the district like Carbon High, Mont Harmon, Creekview and Bruin Point. They will also take trailers to Castle Heights, Sally Mauro, Castle Valley upon request to pick up paper products.

The Green Team would not be able to do the work they do without help from community members. “We want to say thanks to the hundreds of Carbon County residents who have during our 13 years really focused on recycling. That’s really what has made it be the success it has. So what we’ve accomplished in those 13 years is having recycled a semi full of aluminum, and a warehouse of paper, and a mountain of cardboard. I say those things cause that’s really how big a volume that we’ve done. So we are grateful for those things and that has kept all those materials out of our landfill,” stated Piachatelli.
