The Dinos welcomed the Richfield Wildcats on Friday to the gym at Carbon High. This was the second time this season these two hooked up, in January the Dinos came out on top 63-55. This game got off to a rough start with seven combined turnovers in the first four minutes, but things would eventually settle down and Carbon would claim the 62-49 victory.
Richfield holds an 8-11 overall record and is 4-3 in Region play. Entering this contest they were riding a two game win streak with wins over Emery and Grand. They will head south for their final regular season game against Canyon View on Wednesday.
In the early parts of the first Richfield struggled with the press from the Dinos, finding a way around it they took a 10-4 lead with about two minutes left in the quarter. Carbon slowly made their way back, tying it up with five seconds left on a Jackson Griffeth put back.
At the 5:12 mark in the second quarter the Dinos went on a 6-0 run for the next sixty seconds pushing the score to 21-12 and causing the Wildcats to take a timeout. The run would continue after the timeout with Carbon going on a 7-3 run to close out the half.
In the third Carbon, stretched their lead to 40-26 and then heading into the fourth kept the intensity going. The Wildcats actually outscored the Dinos in the quarter but Carbon held on to the lead and closed out the game 62-49.
Rylan Hart scored 19 in the game pulling down four rebounds and grabbing three steals. Since returning from injury Hart has averaged 13 points per game. Braxton Stevenson scored 13 with two assists and two steals, and Jackson Griffeth put up 12 with eight rebounds four assists and three steals.
The Dinos are all knotted up at 9-9 overall this season and 5-2 in region play. The RPI has been hidden now until this Saturday at 9 when the final rankings will be released as will the brackets for the state championship tournaments that will begin on Tuesday and Wednesday of next week.
Carbon has two games remaining this week starting on Wednesday on the road at Manti and wrapping up on Friday at the Spartan Center to face Emery in the final game of the regular season.
