David Funnon Shimmin, 64, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, died suddenly on February 15, 2022, as the result of a work-related accident.

Dave was born in Murray, Utah on September 19, 1957, he was the oldest son of Funnon Thayn and Donna Perry Shimmin.

Dave attended school in Price, Utah, graduating from Carbon High in 1975; he played football and was a member of the swim team. He was a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He received his Eagle Scout Award in 1974.

He married his high school sweetheart, Terri Jean Heino, on September 24, 1977 in Price, Utah. They were sealed later sealed in the Oakland temple.

Dave was a funeral director and served his apprenticeship with Goff Mortuary in Midvale. He attended the San Francisco College of Mortuary Science while working for Keaton’s Chapel of Marin in Novato. He graduated in 1980, returning to Utah. Dave worked alongside the staffs at Mitchell Funeral Home in Price, Berg Mortuary in Provo, Thompson’s Vernal Mortuary and Nelson’s Family Mortuary in Provo where he was highly respected by all whom he served.

He changed careers and became a financial planner where he moved to Memphis, Tennessee, returning home in 2014. He eventually went to work driving a school bus for Nebo School District and driving tour bus for Smith’s Transit in Helper, Utah.

Finally, he found a love for driving dump truck with Dean Dahl, where he worked with our son, Chad. Recently, he started working with our grandson, Daxton at Premier Rock Walls in Nephi. His greatest joy was working with our son and grandson.

Dave could light up any room with his goofy personality and his love for people. He really could bring a smile to anyone’s face, but I think he got more enjoyment trying! Dave absolutely loved spending time at the ranch with his kids and grandkids, hauling hay, working with the cattle and getting them to the mountain for summer range.

He is survived by his wife, Terri; son, Chad (Carly); daughter, Jordan; five grandchildren, Daxton, Teja, Preslie, Max and Kingston; great-granddaughter, Lonnie; brother, Michael (Lynette) Shimmin.

Preceded in in death by son, Skyler Philip Shimmin; parents; and brother, Philip Charles Shimmin.

Funeral services for David Funnon Shimmin are pending under the trusted care of Mitchell Funeral Home of Price and Huntington.
