After finishing the conference portion of the schedule with an 11-7 conference mark, the USU Eastern Lady Eagles will enter the league tournament as the No. 4 seed Wednesday evening.

Defeating every conference opponent at least once in the regular season, the Lady Eagles will enter the win-or-go-home tournament winning six of its last eight games.

“That’s a huge confidence boost for the team and the coaching staff,” said head coach Chelsey Warburton on KOAL’s Drive Time Sports. “At the end of the day we respect all of these teams, but we’ve also been able to beat all of them as well. I think we have a good game plan for each team that we could face and we are going to go for it.”

The first task at hand will be a fourth meeting with the College of Southern Nevada. The Lady Eagles won two of the three regular season meetings, sweeping the two home contests with wins by double-digits. The lone loss to CSN came on Jan. 15 in a 57-49 loss, which happened to be the final game of a three-game road trip.

This year’s tournament format has the women playing Wednesday, Friday and Saturday. Wednesday’s first game will pit No. 3 Snow College against No. 6 Colorado Northwestern at 2:00 p.m.. USU Eastern and CSN will then take the court at 5:00 p.m.. The final game of the day will feature No. 2 Salt Lake Community College against No. 7 Community Christian at 7:00.

A win on Wednesday for USU Eastern would put them in the semifinals against the No. 1 seeded Southern Idaho Golden Eagles. Currently ranked No. 9 in the country, CSI suffered just one loss during the conference slate, falling to USU Eastern on Feb. 2.

The Lady Eagles will look to make a deep run in the tournament with a balanced attack on both ends of the floor. Offensively the team has five girls that have averaged at least eight points per contest.

“We’ve never stressed to them that it has to be the same girls that score,” said Warburton. “We like the balanced attack. Obviously Kinlee (Toomer) does a lot for us, as does Ella (Bradley) and Brooklyn Palmer has stepped up in several games. I like our offensive scheme because it gives everyone an opportunity to do their part.”

Live coverage of Wednesday’s game will air live on KOAL 107.3 FM and 750 AM, as well as the Scenic West Athletic Conference Digital Networks. Click HERE for the complete conference tournament bracket.
