job-fair-2

GMS Mine Repair & Maintenance is hosting a Job Fair on March 4 at 9:00 am till 1:00 pm at the SUFCO Training Center near Salina for individuals interested in jobs with the local coal mines. Castle Country Radio was able to speak over the telephone with GMS Representatives, Troy Hatch and Kerrie Barker to talk about what GMS offers and about the job fair.

“We’re a mining contractor, we’re actually nationwide. We have offices all over the country, we work at over 40-50 mines throughout the U.S., we’re also out of Canada. We run the western division and we employ people from Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, some in the Nevada. We are the premiere underground mining contractor, basically in the United States,” said Hatch. They do things like capital projects to project labor, to construction and maintenance type jobs.

The benefits that are offered to new miners is an excellent package. “Either full-time position with competitive salary and benefits.  We offer dental, health, vision, 401(k), matching HSA account. It’s a good thing to see if it’s a good fit for you and you’re a good fit for them. So we just care about our people and we want to make sure that this is the right opportunity for them,” stated Barker.

Potential employees are asked to bring some items with them when they come to the job fair. “They need to bring two forms of I.D., a driver’s license and social security card, and a resume if they have it, if they have not already applied online, then a resume would be great. That’s when we talk to them about the particulars and what they’re wanting to do and what they are planning to be,” said Barker. The positions GMS is currently looking for are underground miners, underground electricians, underground maintenance and underground mechanics.

If you’re wanting to get into the mining industry stop by on Friday, March 4 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the SUFCO Training Center located at 597 State Route 24 in Salina, Utah or give GMS a call at (970) 312-7404. GMS has been serving the mining industry for nearly 40 years.
