
Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments offers a Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) Program for qualified individuals. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Program Representative, Colton Judd to discuss all the details.
“Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program, VITA, is ran by the IRS and it offers free tax preparation to southeastern Utah residents in Grand County, Emery County, Carbon County and San Juan County and we are able to help you prep and E-file your federal and Utah state tax returns,” stated Judd. IRS-certified volunteers provide free basic income tax return preparation with electronic filing to qualified individuals.
“This year if you earn less than $57,000 we’re able to assist you for free. If you want to do it yourself, you can also go online to myfreetaxes.org I believe and you can do it yourself if you are less than $58,000,” stated Judd. If you choose to do your own tax return you will have the option for online assistance.
There are several VITA sites that are open for individuals to get their taxes prepared. The Carbon County Senior Center has a site open on Wednesdays from 12:30 pm to 2:30 pm. Interested individuals can call the center to make an appointment. The Southeastern Utah Association of Local Governments also has a site at their location of 375 South Carbon Avenue. Individuals can also call (435) 613-0021 to find other sites near your area.
Individuals are asked to be prepared for their appointment by bringing photo ID, social security cards, bank information for direct deposit, all W2s and any other important tax information.
