
Senior Cambrie Jensen went 5-6 with two home runs and four RBI’s and Tylee Norton 3-5 with two home runs and six RBI’s in the Lady Spartans debut this season on the diamond as the traveled to Beaver on Wednesday coming home with a 24-10 victory.
The Spartans were anxious to get back on the field after last season, losing to Grand in the one-loss bracket of the state playoffs, 7-1. With six returning seniors and new head coach Cody Jensen, the Lady Spartans are looking to make some noise this season.
The Lady Spartans jumped out early and never trailed in the contest. Emery collected 28 hits while as a team they only recorded four strikeouts on offense and left just four on base.
The Beavers would get it as close as 9-8 in the bottom of the fourth inning, but the Spartans held their opponent to no runs on the fifth while they added five more pushing the score to 14-8 headed into the final two innings where Emery outscored Beaver 10-2 and claimed the 14 run win.
Along with Jensen and Norton’s contribution, Aspen Taylor went 4-6 with five RBI’s and Brooklynn Ekker and Madi Bunnell registered three RBI’s each in the rout.
Madisyn Childs gets the complete game giving up 10 runs (eight earned) on 15 hits, walking four and striking out 11.
The Lady Spartans are home Thursday to face the Duchesne Eagles, and then will not hit the field again til Mar. 16, when they face Juab.
