
The Carbon boys tennis squad opened up their 2022 season last Thursday at home when they welcomed the Uintah Utes to the tennis courts in Price. Uintah is in the 4A class and finished last season in 12th place at the state tournament. Against Carbon, the Utes had a straight sweep of all the matches winning the meet 5-0.
The Dinos ended last season in sixth place and are looking forward to getting back to the state tournament this year, with Derrick Jorgensen and Branden Scovill among others returning from last years team.
In the meeting with Uintah, the Dinos were unable to collect a win but had a couple of matches go right to the wire.
The first singles match with Jorgensen and Josh Spiers was closer than the final score appeared. In the first set, Spiers would take the 6-0 win. In set two, it went down to the wire going 7-6 with Spiers winning a 7-4 tie breaker.
In the 1st doubles match Alex Callahan and Scovill and Tyler Meier and Xavion Mortensen went the distance with the duo from Uintah taking the first set 7-5, the second set went to Carbon with the same 7-5 score, forcing a tie break that the Utes would take 10-8.
The Carbon Invitational that was set for March 11 has been rescheduled to March 21, so that puts the Dinos on the road in Delta on Wednesday, Mar. 16, they will begin at 3:30.
