Barbie Haeck, Executive Director of the Carbon Chamber of Commerce, stopped into the KOAL Studios to discuss what will be coming up in April for the Chamber.

“The first Thursday of the month is always our board meeting, so it will be April 7 at 9:15 am in the County Admin Building, lower conference room. And it’s always open to the public.” During these monthly board meetings, they discuss their minutes, treasurer reports and whatever may be coming up for that month. “This month we will have Unite Us as a new Chamber member, not from our area, but they will be joining us at the board meeting to introduce themselves;” stated Haeck. The monthly board meetings are open to the public to attend.

When asked what the Chamber’s goal is, Haeck stated, “to support and connect local businesses and provide networking of all opportunities.” One way the Chamber accomplishes this is by holding a monthly Chamber luncheon, held every 3rd Thursday of the month. These luncheons are held at different locations each month. April’s luncheon will be held on the 21st and will be a networking luncheon. “The speed networking luncheon will start out as we normally do, having a business spotlight. This month it is Bookcliff and also Emery Telcom and ETV News. And we also have a community spotlight and this month it is Miss Carbon County Pageant;” states Haeck. She goes on to explain “where we would normally have a speaker, we’re going to do a little speed networking. So everyone sitting at the table will be given 60 seconds to give their “elevator pitch” and pass out any swag they have and then people will switch tables. People will have the opportunity to introduce yourself and your business to everyone in the room.”

The luncheons are open to members and non-members and is a good opportunity to see what the Chamber is all about as well as get to know other businesses in our area. This month’s luncheon will be held at USU Eastern’s Student Service Center Alumni Room. The cost is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. You must register by April 14 to attend the luncheon.

The Chamber’s Annual Casino Night will be held on April 29 at the Event Center. Tickets can be purchased ahead of time by a Chamber Board Member for $20 or $25 at the door the night of the event. Haeck explains what you get with your ticket purchase; “You’ll get 100 chips with the purchase of a ticket and there will be poker, blackjack, faro, roulette, bingo, let-it-ride, and craps.” She stated that there will be a bar and concessions available as well. “At the end of the night, you will exchange your chips for tickets, and then we will have tons of prizes to put your tickets in to try and win.” This is a fundraiser for the Chamber and they are still looking for sponsors for this event. They have different levels of sponsorships available as well. If you’re interested in being a sponsor for Casino Night, give Haeck a call at 637-2788.
