On Friday April 1, The Utah High School Activities Association released it’s initial RPI rankings for baseball. Carbon landed in the No. 5 spot and Emery claimed the No. 14 position. The RPI will be updated daily until the end of the regular season.

The RPI is a mathematical equation that ranks teams by the strength of their schedule and is based on three different parameters: the teams winning percentage , their opponents winning percentage and their opponents opponents winning percentage.  The equation gives each team a percentage and then those numbers are used to rank each team throughout the season. With the playoffs coming up in May, teams can get an idea as to whom they may be playing when the time comes.

Juab claimed the top spot followed by Canyon View, Summit Academy, American Leadership Academy and Carbon rounded out the top five.

Carbon is coming off a double header victory over Grand, who enters the rankings at No. 13, they will face them for last time in Moab on Friday. The Dinos will travel to Vernal to face Uintah on Monday and then head to Payson Tuesday before taking the rest of the week off for Spring Break. They will head back into region play on April 12 when they travel to Cedar City to face Canyon View.

Emery is coming off a double header loss to Canyon View in Cedar City and the two teams will meet up Friday on Cheddar Field at 3:00 p.m.. They will head back to the field on Monday when they hit the road to face Grand in Moab. They will wrap up their season series with the Red Devils on Wednesday when Grand comes to Moab. The Spartans will finish out the week with a non-region contest with Providence Hall next Friday, April 8 at home.
