This year’s Helper Easter Egg Hunt will feature a section strictly for children with mobility impairment on Saturday, April 16 at 9:00 am. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Event Representative, Crystal Tallerico to discuss all the details.
Tallerico has a son, Canyon that has some mobility challenges so that is what sparked the idea for this year’s event. “You know when we would take him to Easter Egg Hunts and stuff, we would try to put him in younger age groups and stuff, to kind of give him a better shot at getting him some Easter Eggs and what not but it wasn’t successful. It just came down to that the other kids were faster, then didn’t need assistance, things like that. So we just kind of saw that as an opportunity and realized we’re probably not the only parents that face this challenge with our child but also want our child to feel included in some of these activities,” explained Tallerico. She approached The Clampers who host the annual city’s Easter Egg Hunt about doing a section for children with mobility challenges and they thought it was a great idea.
Pre-registration for the event is encouraged so that organizers can be sure to accommodate each child specifically. “So they need to contact me directly in order to sign up and register. You know its not any kind of formal form or anything like that, it’s just basically I get some basic information, you know who is your child, what are their needs, so that we can kind of accommodate them specifically. If they are in a wheelchair, we want to be able to maybe put some eggs up a little higher so they’re able to get them themselves rather than having somebody having to pick them up for them or what not. So that is kind of what we’re doing,” said Tallerico. If you have a child that would benefit from this special Easter Egg Hunt, please contact Tallerico (435) 650-1674 by Thursday, April 14. Parents can also contact her on Facebook.
The Clampers and Tallerico could use some help with decorating eggs on Friday, April 15 at The Clamper Hall on Main Street in Helper. Plus, they will need assistance on Saturday, April 16 at 7:00 am to hide all the Easter Eggs before the event starts at 9:00 am. If you would like to volunteer, please contact Harry with The Clampers at (435) 650-0476.
