On Tuesday evening, Emery High School Principal Steven Gordon announced that Jon Faimalo would be taking over the reins as the next head coach for Emery High School girl’s basketball.

Faimalo, who is currently the head football coach at Emery High School, served as the assistant to former head coach Lynn Tuttle. The position opened when Tuttle announced his resignation following the completion of the season in March.

“The main thing is coach Faimalo is a role model to the kids,” said Gordon. “He is a mentor for our student-athletes, both boys and girls. He’s proven that he knows how to get the most out of the kids.”

Faimalo has had two stints and a total of 11 years as an assistant for the girl’s basketball program. Before spending the previous four seasons with Tuttle, he spent seven years under Gordon.

“I’m thankful for my predecessors, coach Gordon and coach Tuttle, for teaching me a lot about the game and instilling a winning tradition within the program,” said Faimalo. “I look forward to carrying it on and working alongside these young women.”

Faimalo will take over a program that will feature several new contributors at the varsity level. The 2021-22 roster had a total of six seniors, four of whom were starters throughout the majority of the campaign.

The next step for Faimalo will be to line out his coaching staff ahead of summer workouts.
