The Carbon Dinos softball team found themselves in unfamiliar territory on Thursday in Moab when they faced the Grand County Red Devils, on the wrong end of a 4-2 score.

The Lady Dinos lost for the first time since March 18, when Grantsville handed them a 14-2 loss in Price. Carbon was riding high on a nine game winning streak and had just beaten the Red Devils on Monday 17-1 in four innings.

Grand put up the first runs in the game putting up three in the first two innings. Carbon would put their only runs on the board in the fourth. Gabrielle Vasquez had one hit, one run and one RBI in the inning and Stevie Oman added the other. Tenley Madsen and Reese Ardohain also collected hits in the loss.

Madsen was on the mound for the Dinos taking the loss going six, giving up four runs (three earned) on nine hits while striking out six.

The Lady Dinos sit at 16-4 with a 5-1 region record. Carbon still sits atop the 3A RPI rankings compiled by the Utah High School Activities Association, although the gap between them and No.2 Grantsville is closing with Carbon’s RPI number sitting at 0.729082 and Grantsville close behind at 0.701517.

With five games left on the schedule,  a big test will start off next week for the Lady Dinos when they travel to Kamas on Monday to face the No.3 ranked South Summit Wildcats.

The contest with South Summit will start another week of multiple games with three on tap, they welcome in Providence Hall on Wednesday at 3:30 at the Carbon County Softball Complex at the fairgrounds. They finish off the week on Thursday in a region match-up on the road against Canyon View.
