It is with great sadness that the family of Madeleine “Maggie” Sampinos Nickas announces her passing on Wednesday, April 20, 2022 at the age of 94. Maggie died peacefully at home surrounded by her family.

Maggie was born to Sam J. and Litsa Amplianti Sampinos and was a lifelong resident of Price, Utah.

She will be deeply missed by her husband of 69 years Art L. Nickas and their 4 children, Louis Nickas, Price, Lisa (Dwight) Rasmussen, Sandy, Mike Nickas, Price, George Nickas (Leslie Worf), Missoula, MT.; grandchildren, Michael Nickas, Christa Nickas, Salt Lake City, Peter (Rachel) Rasmussen, Phoenix, AZ., Madeleine Rasmussen, Salt Lake City, Alan (Monica) Worf, Colin Worf, Missoula, MT.; great grandchildren, Nikolas Rasmussen and Phoenix Worf; sisters, Bessie Pappas and Penny Sampinos; sister-in-law, Vera Nickas of Price and many nieces and nephews.

Preceded in death by her parents; brother, John S. Sampinos; sister, Mae Sampinos Palermo.

Maggie was a bookkeeper for Diamanti Motors in Helper and worked until she had her first child. She was a bookkeeper for Nickas Trucking, librarian at Durrant Elementary, girl scout leader and score keeper for countless Little League baseball games. Most of all, she was an extraordinary homemaker and selfless wife, mother, grandmother and aunt.

Maggie was a devoted member of the Assumption of The Virgin Mary Greek Orthodox Church and a member of St. Sophia Philoptochos.

The family would like to extend thanks to Rocky Mountain Hospice, Dr. Paul Thayne and nurses Audrey, Jade, Christine, Nicole, Stacey and Bridgette for their care and kindness. Also many thanks to Dr. Sterling Potter and his staff for many years of care. We would also like to extend our heartfelt thanks to Autumn Nehls. She has taken such special care of Maggie for almost six years and has been a good friend to our family.

Funeral service, Tuesday, April 26, 2022, 11:00 a.m., Assumption Greek Orthodox Church.  Trisagion service, Monday, April 25, 2022, 7:00 p.m., Mitchell Funeral Home where the family will receive friends Monday and Tuesday one hour prior to service.  The family requests that masks be worn at both the Trisagion and Church services. Committal, Price City Cemetery. Arrangements entrusted to Mitchell Funeral Home where friends are always welcome daily and may share memories of Maggie online at www.mitchellfuneralhome.net.
