It’s time for another Price City update and Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Mayor Michael Kourianos who spoke about the new mural and flip bits.
There is a new mural that will start up from Bookcliff Sales on Carbon Ave to 100 West that will share the story of how Carbon County became to be. “This mural is going to depict how we all evolved, Carbon County evolved. So Kate Kilpatrick is going to start with an atom or a coal, then out of that coal comes all these people, and all the diversity of these people that came into Carbon County and worked our coal mines, coke ovens, that’s what it’s going to be,” said Mayor Kourianos. This mural is made possible through a grant and will stretch from the Bookcliff Sales building to 100 West. Bookcliff Sales is planning to install lights to highlight the mural during the nighttime hours. Residents should see work beginning in the next few weeks.
There has been some work going on at the Price City Fire Station that has to do with flip bits. “Flip Bits, lets talk about that. So Miles Nelson came to me and asked me, the state has reached out to us because of our Water Conservatory Committee that we talk about conserving water and this year is really critical. So Price City has taken the lead to get rid of our park strips slowly but surely around city hall, we’ve chose this area around the Fire Station to get rid of that park strip and the state is coming in to help us with landscape,” explained Mayor Kourianos. The hope is that residents will see the new landscape design and possibly want to implement some of the water conservation features to their own yards.
The mayor wanted citizens to know that the city no longer has a building inspector. “Now you go to the county. So we have the county as working with us doing our inspections for us. If people don’t know, building inspector is done at the county. Now there is some consistency between all the cities for Helper, Wellington, East Carbon, Price that is huge in my eyes. My first four years as a mayor I had lots of calls from people saying that this is not right or whatever – so this is exciting for me,” stated Mayor Kourianos. This is a great change for all cities in the county.
