With four games left on the schedule before the playoffs start, the Spartans traveled to Richfield on Tuesday to face the Wildcats. Coming off back-to-back wins Emery was looking to sweep the Wildcats in their season series and they did just that winning in five innings 16-5.

Aspen Taylor got the start and the win on the bump for the Spartans lasting 2.1 innings giving up five earned on seven hits and struck out two. Cambrie Jensen came in putting in 2.2 innings of work striking out five.

Emery got the party started in the second inning when Madisyn Childs would send one over the wall in center to put the first two runs on the board. When the inning came to an end Emery had jumped out to a 6-0 lead, then putting up another five runs in the third, the Spartans held a commanding 11-0 lead going in to the bottom of the inning.

Richfield came up in the bottom half of the inning and found their only offense putting up five runs and cutting the Spartan lead to 11-5.

By the top of the fourth The Spartans bats weren’t finished yet, tacking on five more runs and sealing the 16-5 win in five.

Broklynn Ekker and Childs shared the same line going 2-4 with two RBI’s and scoring two runs each. Brynlei Luke went 1-3 on the day scoring three runs.

Emery is currently 14-6 with a 5-2 record in Region 12, and the win over Richfield has moved them to No. 3 in the state RPI. Soon the rankings will go away only to resurface at the end of the regular season when the final rankings and playoff seeding will be released.

The Spartans will be back on the field on Thursday , when they welcome North Sanpete for “Senior Day” the final home game of the regular season. Game time is set for 3:30.
