The American Legion will be hosting Memorial Day Services in all the local cemeteries on Monday, May 30 beginning at 8:00 am, Commander, David Jelin, stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details.

The organization will be taking a few days before the Memorial Day holiday to decorate Veterans graves. “So we have a schedule and it starts on Thursday, May 26 at 8:00 am, we’ll have flags and we’ll have notes on how to recognize the gravestones of the Veterans. At 8:00 am we’ll start, we’ll go from Helper Mountainview Cemetery, Willow Creek, Spring Glen, the Slovenian Cemetery, East Carbon and Sunnyside Cemeteries. We hope to have enough volunteers so we can have people at each one at 8:00 am,” stated Jelin. Last year the organization put out over 3,000 flags on graves in the Castle Country area.

“On Friday, May 27 if not already done we’ll address Woodside Cemetery and the Green River Cemetery. Scofield, Carbonville, and Wellington are being taken care of by different volunteers, but if they need help, go a head and help them or just show up and see if they need help,” stated Jelin. On Saturday, May 28 they will be decorating the graves at the cemeteries in Price at 8:00 am. If you would like to volunteer to help adorn the graves of servicemen and women just show up. If you do volunteer you are asked to bring a poker or cordless drill to be able to break the ground to install a flag.

“Then Memorial Day services is on Monday, May 30, we start at 8:30 am in Helper at the Mountainview Cemetery, 9:30 am at the Price City Cemetery, 10:00 am at Price Cliffview Cemetery, 11:00 am at Wellington City Cemetery, 12:00 pm at the East Carbon and Sunnyside Cemeteries, and then we scoot on down for a service at 1:30 pm at the Green River Elgin Cemetery,” said Jelin. Everyone is encouraged to attend one of the ceremonies in recognition of the freedoms fought for and protected by our service members and veterans.

If you are a veteran and wish to participate in the ceremony, please call the Post at (435) 630-8474 for further details.
