Over the last year, Utah has been experiencing one of the worst water droughts in history. Lake levels have been declining, and Millsite Golf Course, in Ferron, is no exception. Last summer and fall, the golf course had to stop watering the course, causing the course to be completely remodeled. On May 16, Millsite reseeded the entire golf course with the hopes of reviving the beloved course.
Kasey Edgehouse, club pro, joined KOAL’s DriveTime Sports to talk about his excitement over the reopening of Millsite.
“Seeing the golf course go from what it was [last fall], to what it is right now, and knowing what we’re going to be taking it to in the next future steps, it has been fun. It’s been a lot of work, and we’ve really put the work into it.”
On July 1, the course officially reopened and on Saturday, July 16, the Ferron community will be hosting an open house for the public to be able to see the new course, and a brand new Fitness Center at the Ferron Fairgrounds. Included in the reopening of the golf course, Millsite has opened a golf simulator where golfers can hit balls on a practice range and find their ball velocity, launch angle, and other features that will allow golfers to take their game to the next level.
While the course has been reseeded, and looks in great shape, Edgehouse said that there are still just a few things that have to be taken care of before the hole is completely finished.
Construction on hole number three is still ongoing, but the hope is to have the hole finished and ready by September or October. Hole number three is going to be a 600-yard, Par 5 that bends around the beautiful area in which the golf course is located.
“We are hoping by next June, or July,” Edgehouse said. “We should have it where we want it to be and then just continue to make upgrades from there.”
The Open House for the Millsite Golf Course and the Ferron Fairgrounds Fitness Center will be on Saturday, Jul. 16 from 11am-6pm.
