Wellington City is excited to be hosting their Pioneer Day celebration on Saturday, July 23 at the city park. Wellington City Council Member, Caleb Nelson and City Recorder, Gracie Procarione stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the event details with listeners.
Things kick off first thing in the morning with a breakfast in the park. “So breakfast at the park from 8:00 am to 9:30 am, it’s a pancake and bacon breakfast for the first 200 people. After that we move right into the parade at 10:00 am, then after the parade we have the booths, the vendors, the music, the performances, starting directly after the parade at the park throughout the day,” said Procarione. All events and activities will take place at the city park on Main Street.
There will be a bit of a change to the parade route as Procarione explains, “So it still starts at the Post Office at 600 East, go down the highway to 200 East at the park and that’s where it will end. A little bit of different route this year but we think it will make everything a little bit smoother.” Folks can gather along the parade route to see the all the floats and other entries.
Following the parade there will be a cornhole and horseshoe tournament held. “So we got both of those going on Saturday. Janelle Norton is running our horseshoe tournament and Zach Palacios is running the cornhole. Both registrations will start right after the parade in the park. They’ll have some booths set up there for people to go sign up. So it will be a cash pot prize, depending on how many entries there are will determine how many places will be winning and it should be a really good time,” said Nelson. There will be a small entry fee required upon registration.
The evening will close out with a rodeo put on by Afton McCourt at 6:00 pm at the Wellington Rodeo Arena. “We are kind of encouraging people to go to that and support her, support the rodeo and have a good time out there after the events in the park,” said Nelson. Seating is limited so guests are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs. Individuals that would like to compete in the rodeo can call the City Office to get contact information.
