Active Re-Entry offers several programs and services for individuals with disabilities to help them to achieve or maintain self-sufficient and productive lives. Executive Director, Terri Yelonek stopped by Castle Country Radio to discuss all the details with listeners.
“Active Re-Entry is a private non-profit organization that serves individuals that have disabilities of all types and its individuals of all ages. The wonderful thing about our program is they’re self-identified disabilities, so we don’t need doctor’s proof, it’s what’s reported by the consumer. We provide an array of programming and our programs with the exception of one, all of the programs are free,” stated Yelonek. Programs include Low Vision, Assistive Technology, Youth Transition, Music & Memory, PERKIE Travels, Community Integration, Equipment Loan Bank, Friendly Visitor, Transportation, Interpreter Referral and Support Groups.
PERKIE Travels Program is a daily transportation service for cancer patients from Carbon & Emery Counties traveling to Utah County for radiation treatments. “We provide transportation up to Revere Health in Provo, Utah Valley Hospital in Provo, and Timpanogos Regional-GAMA west. Its been fantastic we’re able to take that burden financial and asking loved ones to take time off to make those accommodations for you. We have a really great set of drivers that love to chat or keep quiet if they want to go to sleep on the way up and back. It’s extremely friendly, we try to accommodate everybody that can make it and it’s a great, great program,” said Program Coordinator, Derek Jensen. Castle Country Radio held their annual Pie Auction in June and the funds raised from that event help cancer patients with fuel cards. This year a portion of the proceeds was presented to Activate Re-Entry in the amount of $2,000.00 to assist the PERKIE Travel Program. The check was presented to Yelonek after the radio interview.
“Let me just add with PERKIE Travels its not a program that’s funded, we do have some state and federal funds but it’s a program that we have to seek donations for to supplement and offset the cost. This money is so appreciated, we really are thankful for the donations that we receive. I just want to also add, that we do satisfaction surveys of all of our consumers, and I have read some that have come back from the riders from PERKIE Travels, and some of them outright say, if it weren’t for our service, they would not get the treatment. That’s just unacceptable so I am so grateful that we have this opportunity we can provide this to our consumers and communities of Carbon and Emery counties,” stated Yelonek.
