The USU-Eastern Lady Eagles volleyball season came to a close with a dramatic five set loss to the College of Southern Nevada Friday afternoon in the opening round of the Scenic West Athletic Conference tournament in Twin Falls, Idaho.
Entering the conference tournament the No. 4 seed USU-Eastern battled the No. 5 seed in Southern Nevada. USU-Eastern opened the contest with a powerful 25-18 win. The two teams alternated wins for the first three games. After grabbing a 2-1 lead heading into the fourth set, USU-Eastern suffered back-to-back losses falling 25-12 and 15-10.
Emily Bender led the way for the Lady Eagles in the loss with 11 kills. Agatha Roese chipped in with a team best 20 assists and Sidney Springer ended with 18 digs.
After defeating the Lady Eagles Southern Nevada’s season came to an end in the semifinals as they suffered a straight set loss to Southern Idaho. The conference championship was later decided as Salt Lake topped Southern Idaho 3-1.
Friday’s loss brings an end to the Lady Eagles first season under head coach Danielle Jensen. Finishing with an overall record of 10-17, USU-Eastern’s conference mark ended at 4-6. The team ranked in the top 35 in the country in assists, digs and blocks per game.
