The Carbon and Emery Senior Citizen Centers are offering several activities and events that keep the seniors in the area very busy. Castle Country Radio was able to sit down with Director, Robbie Jensen to discuss all the details.
“So Senior Citizen Centers are back up and open, all of the activities are going as they normally were pre-COVID, here at the Carbon Senior Center open Monday through Thursday, meals every day at noon. All of the mobile meal routes are still open and going, we have four routes there and all of our normal activities, so everything is going well,” stated Jensen. It was during the COVID year that activities and events were scaled back to protect the Seniors and the staff.
If a Senior does happen to contract COVID, they can call the center to request that they be put on mobile meals while they recuperate. “So same qualifications apply, they need to be 60 or older. But yea, if they call in, just say, hey I have COVID for a couple of weeks, if I can get on the Mobile Meal Program, we will go a head and qualify them for that two-week period to make sure that they have their meals. Then once they are recovered, they are good to come back into the center,” explained Jensen. To get on the Mobile Meal Program just call the center and they will direct you accordingly.
There are many activities that take place at the center during the weekdays. “Every Tuesday afternoon we have our movie. We show a movie every Tuesday afternoon about 1:00 pm, we have BINGO on Wednesdays, Thursdays we have a shopping bus. Then for the Seniors who can’t get out to get to their appointments we have our bus as well, that can come and pick them up for appointments and different things, to get to the pharmacy or where ever, so we have the bus up and running as well. Of course, ceramics, billiards, library, all of those good things that are always open when we are open,” stated Jensen. The center is open Monday through Thursday from 8:00 am to 4:00 pm and is located at 418 South Fairgrounds Way in Price.
The center host various events and on August 12 they will be hosting their annual Summer Barbeque at 4:00 pm till 8:00 pm. “We did this once last year, and it turned out to be really well, so we decided to do it again, it’s our, now, annual barbeque, dance and a little bit of karaoke. So that will be Friday, August 12 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm. It is one of fundraisers, so we do ask at least a $5.00 donation to get in to do that. But we’ll have burgers and hot dogs, a salad, and some dessert as well too. So for $5.00 that a pretty good meal and some good entertainment,” said Jensen. Also available at the event will be the Shred Truck so if you have sensitive documents, you want shredded, bring them to the event to be disposed of.
All of the monthly events can be found in the Carbon County Senior Center’s free newsletter that is readily available at the center or by calling (435) 636-3202.
