The Carbon Dinos opened the 2022 golf season with a second-place finish Wednesday afternoon in at Cedar Ridge, the home course of the Canyon View Falcons, in Cedar City.

Ending with a team score of 315, Carbon fell just two strokes shy of first-place Richfield’s 313. Emery and Grand tied for third with a 354, while Canyon View came in last with a 361.

Carbon Senior Bode Salas logged the low score of the meet as he fired a 71 to pace the Dinos. Daron Garner delivered an outstanding second score as he shot a 74. Kyler Clark’s 83 and Rydge Butler’s 87 counted as the final two scores for the team total.

The season opening meet featured a tight race on the individual board. Salas managed to top Grand’s Wyatt Toney, who wrapped up his day with a 72. Garner is currently third on the region individual leaderboard followed by Richfield’s Keaton Anderson and Jaygen Mullin.

The Dinos will take the remainder of the week off before returning to competition on Monday. The second Region 12 meet of the season will take place at Moab Golf Course. Carbon will host its lone home meet on Thursday, Sept. 9.
