Two goals and a defensive gem allowed the Emery Lady Spartans to snap a six-game losing streak, earning a 2-0 victory over the South Sevier Rams Tuesday afternoon in Castle Dale.

Senior Ashlyn Durrant and junior Purity Mason each scored one goal in Tuesday’s win. Entering the break with a 1-0 lead, the Lady Spartans added one more goal in the second half to create even more cushion.

Kaylee Mayne and Alexia Mortensen finished the game with one assist. Calypso Mason played all 80 minutes at goalie to record the shutout victory.

Tuesday’s win is the first since the 3-0 decision over Beaver in the season opener on Aug. 11.

Emery will now shift its focus to the Region 12 opener on Thursday at home against the Grand Red Devils. Grand is in search of its first league win after falling to Richfield 2-1 Tuesday night.

Thursday’s home tilt will be the first of two straight in Castle Dale to start league play. The second will come Tuesday against Richfield, before traveling to Carbon on Thursday, Sept. 9.
