The Region 12 golf season continued with the third divisional meet of the season as both Carbon and Emery traveled to Richfield for the first of three trips to the Cove View golf course Wednesday afternoon.
Richfield managed to protect their home course as they shot a blistering 302 to run away with the meet’s win. Carbon finished in a distant second with its highest team total of the season, finishing at 325. Canyon View, Grand and Emery rounded out the field of five, respectively.
Bode Salas continued to pace the Dinos as he finished a team-best 75, placing him in a third-place tie individually. Kyler Clark gave Carbon its second score with an 81, while Daron Garner finished right behind with an 82. The fourth score went to Jack Hedin as he ended with an 87.
The Dinos have been neck and neck with the Wildcats throughout the first two meets as only 12 strokes separated the two teams. Richfield has now opened a 35-stroke lead with three meets left on the schedule.
The Emery Spartans improved greatly in Wednesday’s meet, knocking their team score down to 345.
Joey Leonard, Carter Huntington, and Dempsey Toomer all shot an 86, while Turner Stoker finished right behind with an 87. Trailing Grand by just 13 strokes for third place, the Spartans are currently five strokes better than Canyon View.
The region will now shift to the Carbon Country Club golf course on Thursday, Sept. 8. The following week will take the five teams to Millsite in Ferron, setting the stage for the Region 12 Championship on Sept. 21 at Cove View.
