Thursday night in Castle Dale the Spartans welcomed the Dinos to the Spartan Center. This was technically the second meeting between the two squads on the volleyball court, but since the first meeting took place as part of the Dixie Fly High tournament, Thursday’s meeting was the initial region meeting. The Lady Dinos would claim victory in the first set, but after that it was all Emery, with the Spartans taking the next three sets and the 3-1 win.
The Lady Dinos jumped out in the first set taking a 25-20 victory, and that was the last set Carbon would win.
Emery came out in in the next three sets and got down to business. In set two, Emery would shut down the Lady Dinos by a score of 25-13. Set three was another win for the Lady Spartans 25-20, and then would close out the Dinos in the fourth set 25-23.
The loss was enough to slide the Dinos from No. 3 to five in the RPI. Carbon climbed as high as No.1 at one point but has now lost two of their last three. Carbon will get back on to the court on Tuesday when they travel to Richfield to take on the No. 10 Wildcats.
The Spartans now rest at the No. 14 in the 3A RPI, which will be updated until the the State Championships start in October. Emery will get back to the court Tuesday also when they welcome No. 17 Grand County to the Spartan Center. Game time is set for 6:30.
