Mark Wayne Cornett of Huntington, Utah passed away in his home on Tuesday, September 20, 2022. He passed peacefully in his bed.

To Mark; family was everything. He was a loving husband, father, and grandfather. Mark was born in March of 1954, to Elmer and Jeanne Cornett. Mark was the only son and had three sisters, Leslie Cornett, Gail Everhart, and Robin Striker. Mark was fortunate enough to take a trip this summer to where he and his wife met and grew up. He was able to reunite with family he had not seen in years. Mark enjoyed this trip so much!

On October 2, 1976, Mark married the love of his life, Michelle Soboleski. Mark was truly in love with Michelle until the day he died. There was nothing he would not do to make Michelle happy. Throughout all the trials life threw at them, Mark did everything in his power to make Michelle happy. He chose to carry the burdens of life on his shoulders, never admitting to any pain or weakness and always putting her health and happiness first. He was thinking of her and her happiness until the end.

In March of 1979, Mark and Michelle welcomed their first daughter, Mandie Jo Cornett into the world. Mark was instantly wrapped around her tiny little finger. Mandie and Mark had a special relationship from the start. She was born on his birthday, making her the best gift he ever received.

In May of 1980, Mark and Michelle welcomed their second baby girl, Melissa Marie Cornett into this world. Mark loved Melissa deeply. There was nothing Mark would not do to keep Melissa safe and happy. He instantly fell in love with Melissa and always wanted the best for her.

In February of 1984, Michelle gave birth to Marks first and only son, Matthew Paul Cornett. Mark loved Matthew from the start and did everything in his power to raise Matt to be a respectful, strong, brave, and independent man. He taught him everything he knew about life. How to love his family above all and respect life in general. After the birth of Matthew, Marks family was finally complete.

The love Mark and Michelle had only continued to grow, and so did the family they once considered complete. In January of 2006, Matthew married Kaylynn Snow. Mark not only gained a daughter-in-law that day, but also his first and only grandson, Kayson. Mark loved Kayson and wanted the same things for him he wanted for Matt. In December of 2007, Mark welcomed his first granddaughter into the world, Jacilynn Delila Cornett. He was smitten from the start. He loved being able to pick her up from preschool and take her home for lunch. In May of 2012, Mark snuck into the delivery room to witness the birth of his granddaughter, Shaezly. He was so excited for her to arrive, that he hid behind the curtain to see her come into this world.

Mandie married Arlo Evans in September of 2015. Mark not only gained a son-in-law that day, but also a granddaughter, Cassandra who married her husband, Kia in September of 2017. Mandie gave birth to another granddaughter, Amelia in June of 2020. Mark was overjoyed to have another little girl to spoil and doat on.

Mark loved to spend time outdoors. He loved fishing, hunting, camping and just being in the mountains. Mark took his camper up onto the mountains every summer and when he was not working, he would stay there. He spent a lot of time in the mountains with his best friend, Kurt Oveson and the entire Oveson bunch. When Mark and Michelle moved to Utah they had no family nearby. The Oveson’s and Caroleen and Melvin Marshall became their family. Mark loved watching this family grow. He was excited for each addition. He loved to go to their family reunions and on camping trips with them. He loved Isabelle; she was a great support in his life.

Mark could be found every night after work in one of his two favorite spots. He would either be sitting on the deck in his swing or sitting at the kitchen counter watching Law and Order or an old western movie. He especially liked movies like, The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. He also had a love for reading. He read almost every Steven King and Dean Koontz novel ever written. He shared this love with his daughter, Mandie. On his days off, Mark loved to take his dogs, Elmer and Acey for rides. Mark loved his dogs and they loved him back. They could always be found near Marks side. They miss him so much.

Mark joined the Air Force in 1972 where he served until 1980. He was a B-52 Bomber Crew Chief. He enjoyed his time in the service and made many new friends. He was stationed in Ohio, Michigan, and South Dakota. Mark was given an award for Bomber Crew of the month in 1977, during Giant Strike Seven; bombing competition. Mark was proud to have served his country, so when his son, Matt, decided to join the Marine Corps; Mark was over the moon with pride. Once he left the Airforce, Mark started his career as a coal miner. He found his home at Genwal. He worked there for 24 years. He stayed at the mine until it was closed. He loved that mine and knew every inch of it. He was proud to be a coal miner and loved the work. He retired in 2019.

Mark was a soft spoken, quiet man, who was ever present in the lives of his family. He was the ultimate mediator. Mark had a way of making everyone involved feel like their side was valid, while also making the other side valid as well. He was the most supportive man. He was supportive of every decision his kids and grandkids made, whether he agreed with it or not. He was always there to help, but never pushed his views on anyone. He would always listen to everything said, and never casted any judgement. Mark did not like crowds of people, but if he was able to attend one of the kids’ games or performances, he did it anyway. He was always full of praise for everything they did.

Upon death, Mark was reunited with both his parents, Elmer and Jeanne; his sister, Leslie; his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Frank and Dorothy Soboleski; his Utah family, Isabelle and Val Dean Oveson and Melvin Marshall. He will forever live on through his wife, Michelle; daughter and son-in-law, Mandy and Arlo Evans; daughter, Melissa Cornett; son and daughter-in-law, Matthew and Kaylynn Cornett; his grandson, Kayson; and granddaughters, Jacilynn, Shaezly, Amelia and Cassandra. Through the memories of his family and friends, and anyone who was ever fortunate enough to work with him, his memory will stay alive forever. He will be with us always. He will live forever in all of us because Legends Never Die!!!!!
