With only a few games left on their schedule, the Lady Spartan volleyball squad was on the road last weekend for their annual visit to the Sevier Valley Center in Richfield for the two day tournament. The gathering of teams from across the state saw Emery finish out the weekend 1-4.

With the regular season winding down for the Spartans, the trip to Richfield is a primer for the State Championships which will begin at home sites next weekend on October 22.

The two day tournament got started on Friday with Emery facing the  North Sevier Wolves, a 2A team from Salina and No. 11 in the 2A RPI.

The Wolves jumped out first taking a 25-23 first set win. The Spartans came back in set two fighting their way to a 25-15 win.  North Sevier came out in the next two sets with a 25-19 victory in set three and a 25-17 win in set four, winning the match 3-1.

In Emery’s last match on Friday they faced the Panguitch Bobcats, the No. 2 team in 1A. This was a battled going five sets with Emery earning the 3-2 win.

Panguitch claimed the first set 25-17, and then Emery battled back in set two taking the 25-22 win. The Bobcats fought back in the third set 25-19 and then Emery brought the win home in sets four (27-25) and set five (15-9).

Saturday was a new day for the Spartans and in the first of three matches that they would play, they faced the North Summit Braves a 14-12 team from Coalville playing in 2A. They hold the No. 5 spot in the RPI, and once again, emery found themselves in a dogfight, going five sets but losing 3-2.  The Spartans took set one 25-19 and set two 25-11, but after that it was all North Summit 25-16, 25-22 and 12-11.

Next up for Emery on Saturday was North Sanpete. The Hawks sit at 15-11 overall, 14-2 in region play and sit in the No. 9 spot in the 3A RPI. The Hawks got to business early and swept the Spartans in straight sets 25-17, 25-13 and 25-21.

The South Sevier Rams were the final match of the weekend for the Spartans.  South Sevier is sitting at 7-13  overall and 2-6 in 2A holding on to the No. 13 spot. These two teams have faced off with each other once this season with Emery taking a 3-1 win. In this one the Hawks took the first set 25-18. Emery came back in the second set 25-17 and then again in the third 25-20.  South Sevier closed out the match 25-17 and 15-7 in sets four and five.

The Spartans have just three games left in the regular season and it all starts on Tuesday when No. 10 Canyon View comes to town.

In their first meeting on Sept 20 the Spartans came away with a 3-2 win on the road. Then they will have to turn around and face No.5 Carbon in Price , the season closes out on October 18 when Emery travels to No.18 Grand.

The game against Canyon View on Tuesday will be the final regular season home contest making it Senior Night. The match will begin at 6:30.
