The 2022 regular season has come to an end for the Carbon Dinos as they fell to the Canyon View Falcons by a score of 53-0 Thursday night. The loss dropped the Dinos’ record to 2-8 on the season, a disappointing end to a season that started 2-0.

Carbon’s defense showed up to begin the contest as Canyon View was forced into an early turnover on downs inside the Dinos’ 10-yard line. Dmitri Bordea then picked off Jaxon Jensen, the leading passer in the state of Utah, on the ensuing Canyon View drive.

The Dino offense struggled throughout the game, but Canyon View got on the scoreboard first on a 61-yard interception return for a touchdown with 3:41 left in the first quarter. From that point forward, the game was controlled by Canyon View on both sides of the ball.

Jaxon Jensen found receiver Nick Macias in the endzone for a 15-yard Falcon touchdown to make the score 13-0 with 10:45 left in the second quarter. The 15-yard reception for Macias broke the Canyon View single-season receiving record.

Three minutes later, Jensen found Trenton Ludlow for a 12-yard touchdown, and his second of the night. The Falcons took a 19-0 lead over Carbon with 7:34 left in the second. The very next drive, Jensen tossed a 52-yard touchdown to Andrew Barnes and put Canyon View up 26 points with under five minutes left to play in the first half.
With 1:11 left in the first half, Jensen threw his fourth touchdown of the game on a 29-yard pitch-and-catch to Nick Macias for the second time that half. Carbon entered the locker room down 33-0 at the half.

The Carbon offense continued to struggle as Falk was sacked nine times throughout the duration of the game.
Canyon View would add three more late touchdowns to extend their lead to 53-0. Jaxon Jensen finished the game with five touchdown passes and broke the Canyon View career passing yards record in the process.

Wyatt Falk finished the game 1-12 for -9 passing yards for Carbon. Stockton Kennedy also completed a pass for -4 yards. Ashton Ferguson and Cole Cripps were the receivers responsible for the two completed passes on the night. Chanse Pendergrass finished the game as the leading Dino rusher after posting seven yards on six carries. Mason Vasquez also had four yards on five rushes.

Dmitri Bordea led the Carbon defense with seven tackles, an interception, and a fumble recovery. Pendergrass also held his own on defense, finishing with seven tackles and a forced fumble.

Next week marks the beginning of the 3A State Tournament as the opponent for the Dinos is still undetermined. The UHSAA ruling change, that makes it so all teams make the state tournament, has given the Dinos the chance to start anew and make a deep tournament run. Stay tuned to Drive Time Sports with Jordan Buscarini throughout the week to know who Carbon will face on Friday night.
