The Lady Dinos had one more shot at the Richfield Wildcats in the regular season on Tuesday night in Price. The previous meeting between the two in Richfield came down to a fifth set with the Wildcats taking the win, this match would end the same way as Richfield claimed a 3-2 victory. The loss put the Dinos in the No. 8 spot in the final RPI rankings that were released Wednesday morning along with the bracket for the 3A State Championships which will begin this weekend.
Richfield jumped out in set one taking a quick 25-16 win. The Dinos came roaring back in the second and third sets grabbing back-to-back 25-23 and 25-19 wins and taking a 2-1 lead. The Wildcats then came out in the fourth set and took control winning it 25-21 and 15-8 in the fifth and final set.
The loss dropped the Dinos to the No.8 spot in the final RPI that was released on Wednesday morning. Carbon finished the regular season with a 15-10 overall record and a 4-4 region mark.
The eight seed will give them a first round bye, which means they won’t take to the court until October 28 at Utah Valley University, where they will face Union, the No.9 seed, and the defending 3A State Champions. Early in the season, Carbon traveled to Roosevelt to face the Cougars, falling in four sets 3-1 on Aug. 23. If they win the contest with the Cougars they would move on to face the winner of Juab/Layton Christian and the No.1 seeded Morgan Trojans. A loss would put them in the consolation bracket, with the best possible finish being sixth.
The weekend will conclude on October 29, when a new state champion will be crowned.
