The National Prescription Drug Take Back Day is taking place on Saturday, Oct. 29 and the USU Extension Carbon County is hosting an event to take back of any unused prescriptions from residents in the Castle Country area.
“On National Prescription Take Back Day this is all across the country on Oct. 29 and the DEA, we are partnering with them as well, does it twice a year. The local sheriff’s office in Carbon County is going to be there to help us take back these medications in an anonymous and drive-thru easy drop-off way,” said Dr. Ashley Yaugher. This is a great opportunity for community members to educate themselves about the potential for abuse of medications.
Any and all medication will be accepted during the event which is from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. “You can drop off any medication, it doesn’t have to be opioids, it can be any old or expired medication or medication that you aren’t going to use anymore. As well as, any vape or e-cigarette devices without the battery, you can drop those off as well,” explained Dr. Yaugher. This is a free and easy drive-thru and drop-off method of safely disposing of medications.
“No questions asked, totally anonymous, drop them off, you don’t have to fill anything out. If you do want brunch or a free swag bag, we will actually have that from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm. So we’re trying just to be there as much as we can. Provide information to our community members and you know come grab a snack, come get some brunch with us from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm, for the first 100 people,” said Dr. Yaugher. This event will be held at the parking lot across the street from Sutherlands.
If you are unable to attend this National Prescription Drug Take Back Day event there are on-site locations throughout the county that you can safely dispose of your medications. “There’s actually about ten other locations in Carbon and Emery County, that people can drop off medications anytime. Again, no questions asked, there’s just a drop box, you don’t have to do it at certain times of the year, you can do it anytime you’re done with a medication, and again, no questions asked,” said Dr. Yaugher. There is a drop-box location at the Carbon County Sheriff’s Office, Price City Police Department, Castleview Hospital, Emery County Sheriff’s Office, Boyd’s Pharmacy and Green River Medical.
