It’s time to catch up with Elmo City Mayor James Winn, who took time from his busy schedule to speak over the telephone with Castle Country Radio about the city’s snow removal process, annexation and trunk or treat event.

Winter is right around the corner so it is important that residents remember the city’s ordinances and snow removal procedures. “We sent out a news letter and we’re asking everybody to get trailers and extra cars off the streets just so that its easier when snow removal comes to get that stuff cleaned up. So we’re getting ready,” said Mayor Winn. If anyone has any concerns about snow removal from the roadways can contact the city.

The conservation of water over the summer went really well and citizens should be very proud of their efforts. “We did really well this year. That late rain really helped a ton. But we made it clear till, they usually shut the water off around the 15th of Oct. and that’s when they did it, so we made it the whole time this year,” said Mayor Winn. Citizens are still urged to practice water conservation during the winter months.

The town is seeing new residents coming into the area that want to annex their property for city services. “We have some people that want to annex their property to our town and its in a part of town where, we call it the subdivision, but its not developed yet. But its down there south of town and they want to go just a little bit south of that. So as part of that, we’ve already committed to developing the roads down there for the property owners that are there already. So we just had a discussion there on how we are going to get the roads in there and how fast we can do it,” explained Mayor Winn. The city will receive help for the Special Services District to help develop those and further conversation on annexation will be discussed at future city council meetings.

The city will host its annual Trunk or Treat event on Halloween for the children in the community. “It’s going to be starting there at 6:00 pm and it will be there by the town hall, between the town hall and the library. People can come and park their cars. We do donuts and hot chocolate in the Town Hall for people to come grab. It just gives the kids a chance to come by, especially those that live far out of town to participate with us in our Halloween festivities,” said Mayor Winn. This a safe way for children to trick or treat in the area.
