Freshman Rozlyn Stowe led the way as the Lady Dinos are the 3A State Girl’s Cross Country Champions for the first time in school history, after the final race that was held Tuesday at the Regional Sports Complex in Salt Lake.
Stowe continued with the same dominance that she has had throughout the season turning in a first place finish of 18:17.1, almost a full 10 seconds ahead of second place finisher Jylie Jenkins of Union. Cadence Kasprick of Grand, Lydia Forsyth of Canyon View and Judge Memorial’s Corrine Higgins rounded out the top five. Stowe is the first overall Girl’s Cross Country Champion at Carbon since 1980.
Along with her individual top finish, Stowe and the rest of the Lady Dinos claimed the top prize on the team side. Carbon, Grand and Canyon View went first, second and third, respectively, which meant the top three teams in 3A were all from Region 12. Ogden and Morgan made up the top five.
Senior Lindsie Fausett led the remainder of the Carbon girls top finishers ending the day in 11 overall. Senior Ambree Jones (14), junior Sophia Taylor (18) and senior Beverly Lancaster (26) made up the Carbon top five.
For the boys, it was Richard Crane of Richfield who claimed the individual 3A State crown, turning in his time of 15:57.5. Carter Parsons and Jack Blodgett both of Ogden and Josh Nicolaides and EJ Lee both from Morgan made up the individual top five.
On the team side Ogden and Canyon View went first and second. The Carbon Dinos claimed third place followed by Morgan and Union.
Braxton Ware ended the day in eighth place overall. Easton Humes (16), Garrett Black (19), Sean Stromness (35) and Logan McEvoy (38) rounded out Carbon top five finishers.
