Green River boys basketball hit the court again on Tuesday to face the Wayne Badgers on the road. Coming off a big home win over Merit Prep, Academy 72-35, the Pirates were looking for another win as they traveled to Bicknell to face Wayne, and unfortunately suffered a 63-46 loss.

Green River started off the season taking on cross-county rivals Emery in Castle Dale taking an 81-48 loss. They returned home to face Merit Prep., and Luis Hernandez had a great evening, scoring 21 points leading the Pirates. Ryker Meadows added 13 and Raul Mendoza had 11.

In the game with Wayne, the Pirates kept it close for the first quarter ending with a 1 point deficit 15-14.  In the second quarter, Wayne started to put some distance between themselves and Green River putting together a 15-8 quarter and taking an eight point lead to the locker room at halftime.

In the opening quarter of the second half  the Badgers had pushed the lead to 10, 44-34. The fourth quarter was all Wayne once again outscoring the Pirates by seven and taking the 17 point win.

For Wayne, Jake Peterson led all scorers with 30, Hunter Mitchell added 14 and Reed Edwards had seven in the win.

For the Pirates it was Ryker Meadows who put in 12 points while Joe Vollmer and Bridjer Meadows each scored nine.

Green River will be back on the road on Thursday when they will take on Mount Vernon Academy.

The Pirates won’t be back on their home floor until January 11 when they will be into region play as they face Monticello.
